Metabolic syndrome is a condition that includes high cholesterol, high blood pressure, insulin resistance and abdominal obesity. In one study a group of young adults were followed for 15 years and their intake of magnesium and the occurrence of metabolic syndrome was assessed.
Interestingly enough those who developed metabolic syndrome had the lowest intake of magnesium. Magnesium is a very important mineral that assists our bodies with the metabolism of carbohydrates which is very important because a disruption in this area of functioning can lead to type-2 diabetes.
Magnesium also plays a role in maintaining a healthy neurological system and especially a healthy cardiovascular system. How much do you need? Woman = 400mg/day.
Men = 333mg/day Where to get magnesium? Spinach, avocado, whole grains and fish like halibut. You can also supplement your diet with specific magnesium containing supplements. In the Health mentoring programme I will give more detailed advice on food recipes containing magnesium and what type of supplements contain the best form of magnesium. Kind regards
