Many people who have been to some of my recent seminars have received a good dose of teaching on the value of consuming healthy fats and oils. Olive oil, which obviously features in these seminars, has provided some interesting new research. In a study that was done at the Monell Chemical Senses Centre in Philadelphia USA, a compound by the name of oleocanthal was found. What makes this compound unique is the fact that it’s an anti-inflammatory compound with a strikingly similar potency and profile to that of ibuprofen, a very well known chemical anti-inflammatory drug. Oleocanthal is only found in newly pressed extra-virgin olive oil. This study didn’t elaborate too much about the exact concentration of oleocanthal present in olive oil but the anti-inflammatory effects of oils, and especially essential fatty acids, have been known for quite some time. I’ll elaborate more on exactly which oils to use and how much when we get to that section in the mentoring programme. Here’s something you may find interesting though: Ever wondered which Olive oils are really the good ones? I’ve done some research and I published a grading system on the website based mostly on the grading provided by the International Olive Oil Council. Click here for the Olive oil grading system
