Sunlight and lung cancer

Here is another great reason to get more sun!

A study has just been completed where the incidence of lung cancer in 111 countries was related to sun exposure. What made the findings of this study interesting is that the countries that are closest to the equator have the lowest levels of lung cancer!

It is thought that the increased vitamin D level that these people have due to more time in the sun is the reason for this protection because vitamin D has a powerful cancer-inhibiting effect, even if cancer is already present.

What about skin cancer?
Skin cancer is a risk but the type of sun exposure that you need to produce enough vitamin D is far less than what would cause sunburn.
Many experts concur that 5-15 minutes of sun exposure 2 hours away from midday is healthy.

Lung cancer prevention is not the only reason for a daily dose of sun. I’ve been sharing with audiences for years now that a regular, healthy dose of sun improves your mood (through the increased production of serotonin) and increases bone density (due to the increased vitamin D).

Maybe it’s time that you have your morning tea outside.

In health,

Dr Anton
