Beverages
Tea helps with bone density

Don’t miss your morning tea!

A study published in 2007 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition delivered some interesting results regarding the consumption of tea and bone density!

In this study 1500 people’s bone density was monitored over a 5 year period.
As was expected nearly all the people in the study lost bone mass due to their increase in age but the interesting part was that bone loss amongst tea drinkers was significantly less than in non-tea drinkers!

Tea has been in the spotlight before when studies started showing us that people who drink regular amounts of tea (2 cups or more per day) have a reduced risk of developing heart disease due to the catechins in the tea. Although there is no definite clarity regarding the mechanism by which tea increases bone density we do think it has to do with the heart protective catechins which occur only in normal black tea.

Even better, green tea contains the most powerful catechins we know of in the form of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate! (How's that for a nutrition fact mouthful!)

See you at 11h00…
